Bärgüf - gib nit üf! Together against cancer: A day of solidarity and support in the Moosalpregion

Under the motto "Bärgüf-Gemeinsam gegen Krebs" (Together against cancer), an unforgettable event took place that did not celebrate the beauty of nature but focused on the fight against cancer. Also at the fifth edition on August 26, 2023, the unique traffic-free route from Stalden - Törbel - Moosalp was completed by the participants by mountain bike, racing bike, unicycle or on foot. A small insight of our employees, who actively helped at the event.

Early out of bed was the motto for two of our employees on the aforementioned Saturday. Today, instead of going to the office, they went to curve 15, which is located between Stalden-Törbel-Moosalp. At 4:30 a.m. the two were already on site and prepared the curve with the most necessary things. Tent, mini-golf course, hot-pot, music system, bouillon, branded apples, cold drinks - everything had to be in the right place within a short time. The big challenge was that it was still pitch black at the time. Hardly everything was ready, our youngest employee could not believe her eyes, when already 05.45 o'clock the first drivers pedaled around the curve. A strong performance, the participants had just started at 05.00 o'clock for the lantern ride in Stalden.

MoosAlbi's tireless efforts

MoosAlbi didn't have to get up quite so early for the Bärgüf. But he is probably the team member with the most sweaty task. He took his bike with him and made his way up to Moosalp. One or the other couldn't believe his eyes: Isn't that MoosAlbi pedaling his bike?

He even made it to the finish on the Moosalp (well, maybe not quite the whole original distance). Arriving at the finish line, he was able to put a smile on the faces of some children big and small. Our crowd favorite is always good for surprises.

Eventful and emotional day

Numerous participants found their way up to Moosalp already in the early morning. Some were already resting at our bend for the second and third time. Especially these participants were happy to drink a salty bouillon to make the last meters up to Moosalp. Our employees appreciated the short chat with the exhausted participants and were visibly touched by one or the other personal story. A short game of mini-golf gave the participants a chance to distract themselves a bit and relax. When the mayor of Zermatt poured us a glass of wine just like that as a thank you, we were visibly moved and felt the great solidarity.

We were happy to serve coffee and homemade cake to the participants and were also able to help the participants one or the other time. One participant with hiking boots and walking sticks settled down on our bench, closed his eyes and was unresponsive for a short time. His exhaustion did not leave us cold and we served the young man a hearty bouillon. After a short break, he continued again. He was now tackling the last 2 kilometers, he had already completed 98 kilometers. WOW, that left all our employees speechless.

In the afternoon, unfortunately, rain set in and with it an unaccustomed cold. Some brave participants were still on the way and were glad to warm up with the warm broth. When the team "Give" arrived at our place, accompanied by heavy rain and fog, there were some wet eyes among our staff while distributing the cake. Especially in these weather conditions NID ÜFGÄ - was also strongly felt by the children!

As the sun slowly disappeared behind the mountain peaks after the rain and the day drew to a close, a feeling of gratitude remained. Satisfied and tired from the long day, we cleaned up everything properly as a team. We used the drive back to Bürchen to share our experiences with each other. Our team is definitely richer by some experiences.

We take our hats off to the 955 participants and look forward to the next Bärgüf event.
