BUS ALPIN ASSOCIATION AT A GLANCE

The aim of Bus alpin is to promote public transport services to attractive tourist destinations in the Swiss mountain region that are currently not accessible or only poorly accessible by public transport. Bus alpin helps to increase the overall tourist attractiveness of the member regions by improving public transport accessibility. This increases regional added value. Bus alpin supports regions that suffer considerably from the effects of private motorized transport, at least on peak days. The aim is to encourage people to switch from car to public transport.

The member regions are supported by Bus alpin in setting up operations, marketing and financing public transport services.
The Bus alpin association is supported nationally by: Swiss Parks Network, PostBus AG, Swiss Alpine Club (SAC), Swiss Working Group for Mountain Regions (SAB), Association of Public Transport VöV, Swiss Hiking Trails and VCS Transport Club of Switzerland. The association was founded in April 2011 - as the successor organization of the former IG bus alpin. Since the beginning of 2010, bus alpin activities have been self-supporting. Previously, the project was co-sponsored by the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications DETEC.

BUS ALPIN FOUNDING MEMBER MOOSALPREGION

The Moosalpregion was one of the four pilot regions of the Bus alpin project, which was launched in 2005 with federal support.
Goals and motivation for the project actors of the Moosalpregion:

  • Contribute with activities in the field of public transport to the long-term preservation of existing public transport services.
  • Increase awareness of the region by expanding nature-based tourism offerings.

These goals have been consistently pursued by the regional players since the start of the project. The existing PostBus service from Stalden - Törbel and from Visp - Bürchen to Moosalp was strengthened by developing tourist offers that include the public transport journey and communicating this.
