Off to the "SkyHeia"!
Sleeping outside is not everyone's preference, as we all know. However, the Skyheia in the Moosalpregion combines the comfort of a bedroom with a unique nature experience, which is also worthwhile for not outdoor-experienced overnight guests. Field report.
Off to bed! I heard this phrase enough from my parents in my childhood. But when I first heard the term "Heia" in connection with "Sky", it made me curious. The "SkyHeia" is an extraordinary outdoor sleeping facility, which can be booked this summer 2023 in the Moosalpregion. As one of the first overnight guests, I had the opportunity to test the new offer for one night.
A bed between forest and meadows
The SkyHeia bed is located at about 1,400 meters above sea level. It stands in the middle of an extensive mountain meadow with a magnificent view of the picturesque Bietschhorn.
It is a large, cozy double bed made of aluminum, which can be assembled within minutes. Particularly practical is the large mosquito net, which completely surrounds the bed and can be fixed in a few simple steps. In addition, there are two small bedside tables with lamp. It is recommended to take your own headlamp and a powerbank for your smartphone. The personal equipment, which should be brought to the SkyHeia, also includes a pillow and a warm sleeping bag, which is suitable for cool nights in the mountains. If you want to use the toilet or a small sink, you will find it directly at the campsite.
Fall asleep and wake up with the sound of nature
Personally, I have never been a fan of camping or sleeping outside. However, the SkyHeia bed has a lot to offer compared to a campsite. Especially the view of the open night sky and the mountain peaks on the horizon is always worth it. As soon as it gets dark, the beautiful starry sky makes itself felt, this was a magical experience!
I found the soundscape very pleasant as I fell asleep. A light rush of wind moved across the meadow. My ears listened to a babbling mountain stream flowing towards the valley just a few meters from the bed. In the evening, the soothing ringing of bells from the cows grazing on the hillside opposite could be heard. Only occasionally, traffic noises from the neighboring road could be made out. At night the soft chirping of crickets was in my ears. At daybreak, I was awakened in SkyHeia by singing birdsong and soft sunlight. The next morning I felt altogether refreshed and content, in the midst of a peaceful, lush green-smelling environment.
Nature experience combined with bedroom comfort
The experience of sleeping in the great outdoors combined with the minimal comfort of a bedroom makes the SkyHeia a special overnight experience. There is no lack of space or lying comfort compared to an overnight stay in a tent or camper. In addition, the use of the sanitary facilities on the site is included. For catering, you can reach two restaurants in the immediate vicinity, which are only a few minutes walk away. Optionally, the breakfast buffet can be booked right away. In addition, there is the possibility to rent a hot tub. If the weather forecast is not too good or rain is approaching, the booking can be canceled until about 17.00 clock.
Scientific research shows how important it is to get fresh air and spend time in nature. You'll get plenty of both when you sleep outside, and without having to invest any extra time - because you have to sleep anyway.
I can only recommend the SkyHeia bed to all those who like to spend the night outdoors or would like to try it out even though they don't have much experience with it. A little adventure is guaranteed in any case.
