Berghotel + Restaurant Weisshorn - The Törbj village pub with a Spanish-Italian touch

Törbel is considered one of the coziest mountain villages in the Upper Valais. It impresses with its magnificent panorama of the Valais Alps, clear mountain air and the wonderful natural backdrop of the Moosalp region. The village image and its inhabitants give the small mountain village a very special charm. A cozy village pub is indispensable for a village like Törbel. In the upper part of the village, at Moosalpstrasse 96, host and head chef Julio Carrasco welcomes his guests to the Weisshorn restaurant. Julio focuses on cuisine that combines Italian and Spanish influences with Swiss specialties.

Julio Carrasco: Chef and host

Julio Carrasco was born in Spain. He came to Switzerland at the age of 11 and completed his schooling in Bern. His brother worked as a car mechanic. Julio wanted to follow his brother's example and also began training as a mechanic. However, he soon realized that working in a garage was not the right thing for him. His true passion was music and he became a professional DJ for a music agency. Julio traveled all over Europe as a DJ. In addition to numerous gigs in Switzerland, he also played music in Rimini, Milan and Spain. After 14 years in the music industry, Julio realized that he was no longer the youngest and that his preferred style, "funk", had increasingly changed. He therefore decided to take a new direction professionally.

Julio has always been a sociable person. That's why he decided to pursue a second career in gastronomy. He trained as a chef in Bern. Julio lived with his family in Sicily for 17 years and successfully ran a restaurant there. In connection with the wave of refugees around the island of Lampedusa, Julio was forced to return to Switzerland with his family. He initially ran a restaurant in the canton of Bern and then found his way to Valais through an acquaintance, where he most recently ran the De la Poste restaurant in Leuk.

Julio has been the manager of the Weisshorn restaurant in Törbel and the associated hotel since October 2023. He is also responsible for running the Bistrotto in the lower part of the village near the church. The opening hours of the Weisshorn and the Bistrotto are always coordinated. The mountain hotel has a total of seven rooms with simple but lovingly furnished interiors. In the restaurant, the focus is primarily on Italian cuisine, complemented by specialties from Spain and Switzerland. Julio and his team invest a great deal of passion and warmth in their work for the Törbj restaurants. Their philosophy is to offer every guest an uncomplicated, simple but enjoyable experience and to preserve village traditions.

"I feel at home in Törbel"

Julio feels at home in his new place of residence and plans to stay for the long term. He particularly appreciates the personal atmosphere of a small mountain village with its many personalities and clubs, as opposed to a large tourist resort where you are just one number among many. Due to his move, Julio has not yet had the opportunity to explore the area around Törbel. However, if he finds some free time in the future, he would like to discover the Moosalp region and venture onto the ski slopes again after a long time.
