The Moosalpregion in autumn dress
Who doesn't love them, the pleasant autumn days with blue skies, sunshine and mild temperatures? Cool nights and warm, sunny days make the forests shine in vibrant colors like red, orange and yellow. An autumnal period of fine weather combined with the intense leaf coloration of deciduous and mixed forests is often referred to as "Indian Summer" in eastern North America - a phenomenon, however, that can also be observed in the Valais Alps. Experience your personal Indian Summer with us in the Moosalpregion.
Indian Summer in the Moosalpregion
The American Indian Summer stretches from the south of Canada down to the north of the USA in a very short time every autumn. Temperatures are mild, the weather is dry and pleasant. Forests, consisting of various species of birch and maple, turn brightly colored. In the Moss Valley region, it is especially the birch and larch trees that turn a bright yellow to gold. Our autumn is not quite as colorful compared to the American Indian Summer, but still beautiful to look at.
The term "Indian Summer", which has now also become established in Central Europe, is used to describe a particularly picturesque autumn. It could also be compared with the traditional Indian summer. It is assumed that it originates from Indian traditions. This is because autumn was the prime season for many Native American peoples to go hunting. The mild weather encouraged many animals to roam again and search for food shortly before winter. The foliage at this time shone in a red that was just as vibrant as the blood of the prey that was to be hunted down.
