WINTER HIKING

Snow-covered larch forests, sun-baked wooden facades and pure sunshine - images that describe the Valais in its most beautiful natural splendor. In the Moosalpregion you can also hike in winter. The numerous prepared hiking trails invite you to take short or long walks through white landscapes surrounded by a dozen four-thousand-meter peaks and rustic villages. In between, enjoy an aperitif in a restaurant and then continue through the vast forests that cover the large area of the Moosalpregion. There are countless possibilities to discover the Moosalpregion on foot also in winter - just lace up your hiking boots, start walking and enjoy!

We recommend the following hiking highlights:

Reed - Leaf - Bodmen

The warm-up tour in Bürchen. The small hiking circuit takes you to the left side of Birkendorf. An ideal terrain to acclimatize and see the village from a different perspective. At the beginning or at the end of the hike, the restaurants Ronalp, Bürchnerhof and Alpenrösli offer you culinary delights.

Route:

Starting point is the parking lot at the Info Center in Bürchen. From there you walk directly up on the left side of the children's paradise Bodmen in the direction of Hotel Bürchnerhof. Above the hotel you come directly to the main road and cross it there. The path then leads you very flat to the left to the ski lift Blatt. You cross this and come directly to the small hamlet of Eitresch. Now the trail leads slightly downhill to Zentriegu Hof and then flat again back to the starting point.

This hike can also be hiked in the opposite direction.

Hellela - Eggwald

An excursion to the beautiful Hellela and the mystical Eggwald. This hike is relatively flat and leads you directly from Bürchen to the Hellela, a terraced clearing in the middle of the large forests of the Moosalpregion.

Route:

Starting point is the parking lot at the Info Center in Bürchen. From there you hike directly to the left, the path under the Zenhäusern sports store, in the direction of Zentriegu Hof. Passing the farm with farm store, you will reach the squirrel path after about 10 minutes. This is only a few hundred meters long and takes you directly to the middle Hellela. You continue through the small settlement and turn left directly after the houses. The path leads you through the Eggwald. At the first opportunity turn right and a little later turn right again. The path leads you straight back to the middle Hellela. From there you go back the way you came.

Chalte Bodu - Moosalp

The winter hike incl. chairlift ride. This hike takes you directly to the Moosalp. After the 50-minute hike, you can fortify yourself with food and drink on the Moosalp. If you are already hungry or thirsty on the way, you can already enjoy an aperitif in the Panorama restaurant or in the Chopfab bar.

Route:

The starting point is the chairlift, which takes you comfortably from Bürchen to Chalte Bodu, the terminus of the chairlift. After getting off, turn left and follow the flat path over to the wet Pletscha. There you reach the alpine road, which also serves as a toboggan run in winter. Follow this road all the way up to Moosalp.

Those who like it even more comfortable can also take the Alpuschnaager, the piste cab of the Moosalp region, from Bürchen to Moosalp.

Panorama winter hiking trail

The highlight for ambitious winter hiking birds. The Panorama Trail is the ultimate winter hike, which takes you relatively flat from Törbel through the entire Moosalpregion to Bürchen and from there to Unterbäch or Eischoll. Lined by the Valais and Bernese Alps, the panoramic view changes every hour. On crackling snow you hike between 1,480 and 1,800 m.a.s.l. from mountain village to mountain village. The trail is groomed with snowcats during the winter season. In addition, it is laid out in such a way that only parts of it can be completed. The individual villages can be reached by public transport.

Route:

Starting point is the upper edge of the village of Törbel (bus stop Törbel Abzw. Zeneggen). Directly in the bend, the path leads you flat in the direction of Bürchen. First you reach the Djepia and from there further to the upper Hellela. Pass the upper Hellela on the right and walk directly down to the middle Hellela. Once on the lower level, walk left through the small settlement and on to the squirrel path. After the squirrel path you walk down to the right at the junction, past the Zentriegu farm, to Bürchen. Arrived in Bürchen you walk down the main street at the restaurant Ronalp to the restaurant Alpenrösli. On the square in front of the Alpenrösli you walk left past the small chapel through a narrow alley. At the end of the alley turn left. Now it is relatively steep, but not that long, uphill. You then follow this road all the way to Brandalp, the mountain station of the chairlift in Unterbäch. Passing the Brandalp, the path leads you to the wide Stäg, where you continue to the right. After a few hundred meters it's only downhill to the Strygge mountain station in Eischoll. The chairlift then takes you comfortably down to the village of Eischoll.
